The 2026 Building Re-Opening Campaign—$50,000 to feed our community again!
In early February, what first appeared to be a few small drips of water in our reception area quickly revealed a much larger problem. Hidden ice dams had formed along portions of the building with flat and low-pitched roofs, trapping melting snow and forcing water back under the roofing. As freezing and thawing cycles continued, the drips turned into steady streams that soaked walls and ceilings throughout the building. For the safety of our guests, volunteers, and staff, we made the difficult decision to close the pantry building to the public on February 6 while emergency remediation began.
As contractors opened walls and ceilings, the full extent of the damage became clear. Nearly 40% of the building required a new roof, and seven areas inside the facility had to be demolished and rebuilt. Electrical systems, insulation, drywall, and interior spaces—including an office, restroom, and kitchenette—needed to be reconstructed.
Thanks to the dedication of contractors and staff, the work is now about 65% complete, and the work continues to progress.
Insurance has covered a significant part of the repairs, but sizeable portion of the cost remains our responsibility. To meet this challenge, we are launching the 2026 Building Re-Opening Campaign, with a goal of raising $50,000 to cover the remaining repair expenses so that these unexpected costs do not divert funds from feeding our community. With your help, we hope to reopen our doors in late April and resume full pantry operations in early May—continuing our mission of neighbors feeding neighbors.
